This year, Jonas Mekas Alley is celebrating its 15th name day! In 2010, this cozy passage in Užupis was officially named after Jonas Mekas – and on that occasion, it was adorned with the artistic installation “The Flying Hats Tell Stories…” – glowing hats reminiscent of Jonas Mekas’s legendary image: camera in hand, hat on his head, and thoughts set free. This year’s Culture Night event is special – we are commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Adolfas Mekas, Jonas’s brother. During Culture Night, the alley came alive with the tales written by the Mekas brothers – performed live, freely, and in true Užupis spirit.
